Kevin Patrick Smith (August 2, 1970) is an American actor, comedian, filmmaker, comic book writer, author, and podcaster. He was born in Red Bank, New Jersey, and attended Henry Hudson Regional High School. He used to produce sketch comedy skits. Smith worked at a convenience store, and here Smith decided to create his film named Clerks. He raised $27,575 to make the film and cast his friends and acquaintances in most of the roles. Clerks was screened in 1994 at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Filmmaker’s Trophy. The movie also went to the Cannes International Film Festival in May 1994.
Smith released his second film in 1995 named Mallrats. Jason Lee debuted as a leading man in this movie, and it brought in $2.2 million at the box office. He has also written a few notable books, including Silent Bob Speaks (2005), My Boring Ass Life: The Uncomfortably Candid Diary of Kevin Smith (2007), Shootin’ the Sh*t with Kevin Smith (2009), Tough Sh*t: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good (2012), and Jay and Silent Bob’s Blueprint for Destroying Everything (2014).
Kevin Smith has directed almost thirteen feature films since 1994. Smith is also very well-known for creating and executive producing TV series such as Clerks: The Animated Series (2000-2001), Sucks Less with Kevin Smith (2006), Comic Book Men (2012-2018), and Geeking Out (2016).
