Kevin Kling Information
Originally from the United States, Kevin Kling now works as a commentator for NPR. Kling was born and raised in Osseo, Minnesota, and received his BA in theatre from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1979. At the beginning of his career, in the 1990s, he wrote two plays in Minneapolis and St. Paul: 21A and Fear and Loving.
His solo performance Home and Away, directed by fellow Gustavus alum David Esbjornson, debuted at Seattle Repertory Theatre before transferring to New York City's Second Stage Theatre. Kling has worked with Simone Perrin, an accordionist, and singer from Minneapolis, on two projects: How? How? Why? Why? and Breakin' Hearts and Takin' Names.
The Whiting Award for drama was presented to Kling in 1993. He was given Minnesota's prestigious A. P. Anderson Award for Literature and the Arts in 2009. Kling has also often contributed to NPR's All Things Considered with narratives. In addition to his box set, Collected Stories, he has released several CD compilations. His short story collection The Dog Says How was published first, and he has since published four more.
