Ken Miller is an American singer, dancer, and actor prominent in low-budget films throughout the '50s and '60s. Miller had small roles in major films like East of Eden, starring James Dean, and Touch of Evil, starring Orson Welles, as well as a larger role in Anthony Quinn's The Buccaneer starring Yul Brynner. Still, he is best known for his guest roles in countless B-movies and TV shows, two of which, I Was a Teenage Werewolf and Attack of the Puppet People, has achieved cult status.
Because he looked much younger than he was, he maintained a steady acting career throughout the '50s and '60s, portraying roles as diverse as a 'delinquent,' a 'rock 'n' roll singer,' and a 'teen surfer.' This was even though he was already well into his thirties then. His performances in movies and on television (especially the dance segment of "American Bandstand") led to record deals and a few singles. Shel Talmy, best known for his work with The Who and The Kinks, signed him to EMI's Stateside label in 1964 and offered him a song written by another freshly signed protégé, David Jones. Upon agreeing, he made history by officially being the first performer to record a David Bowie cover.
