Kapil Sharma Information
Kapil Sharma (April 2, 1981) is an Indian singer, producer, dubbing artist, actor, television host, and stand-up comedian. He was born in Amritsar, Punjab. Sharma gained notoriety after he won the 10 lakh (equal to 26 lakh or US$32,000 in 2020) cash prize on the Indian comic reality TV show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007. He had previously been a part of the MH One channel's Hasde Hasaande Ravo, a Punjabi variety show. Sharma claims he went to Mumbai to pursue a music career.
After auditioning for Sony's Comedy Circus, he went on to win the series six times. He also presided over Season 6 of the dancing competition show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Season 2 of the comedy show Chhote Miyan. In 2008, Sharma appeared on the show Ustaadon Ka Ustaad. In 2011, he competed on the singing reality program Star Ya Rockstar on Zee TV and placed second. Comedy Nights with Kapil, produced by Kapil under his K9 Productions label for Colors TV, premiered in 2013.
Sharma was honored as the 2013 CNN-IBN Indian of the Year for his contributions to the entertainment industry. The award was presented to him by actor and industry veteran Amol Palekar. Live performances of his were held in Oman the same year. The Delhi Election Commission designated him as the Brand Ambassador for the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
