John Waters Information
John Samuel Waters Jr. (April 22, 1946) is a multi-talented American artist, writer, director, and actor. In the early 1970s, he became famous for his rebellious cult films, such as Multiple Maniacs (1970), Pink Flamingos (1972), and Female Trouble (1974). After its successful run as a Broadway musical and a 2007 feature film adaptation, Waters's 1988 comedy film Hairspray became a musical in its own right.
Getting $5 million independent films done is difficult, Waters said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune in 2010. Like many indie film businesses nowadays, the one I worked with—where I sold the idea, received a development agreement, and was given a wonderful salary to write it—is now out of business.
The news broke in October 2022 that Waters would put his book Liarmouth into theaters. Waters and Village Roadshow Pictures will produce and direct the film.

A star was bestowed upon Waters on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on September 18, 2023. Ricki Lake and Mink Stole from Dreamlander were among the special guests.
