Joanne B Freeman Information
Joanne B. Freeman (April 27, 1962) is a U.S. historian. She is also a tenured Professor of History and American Studies at Yale University. Freeman is from New York City, New York. She graduated from Pomona College in 1984 and received both her MA (1993) and Ph.D. (1998) in American History from the University of Virginia. Freeman was a public historian before graduating from school. She used to deliver lectures at a range of US history-centric institutions such as South Street Seaport, Museum of American Finance, Smithsonian, and the Library of Congress.
Joanne B. Freeman edited the Alexander Hamilton: Writings for the Library of America in 2001. She is also the author of Affairs of Honor: National Politics in the New Republic. Some of her other books are Affairs of Honor: National Politics in the New Republic, The Essential Hamilton - Letters and Other Writings, The Field of Blood: Violence in Congress and the Road to Civil War, and Jeffersonians in power: the rhetoric of opposition meets the realities of governing.
Journal of Policy History is another additional publication by Freeman. A series of lectures by her on the American Revolution is one of 42 courses that are offered online by Open Yale Courses. Freeman has also been interviewed on American Experience and The Discovery Channel. She also appeared in Founding Brothers with fellow historians, Richard Brookhiser, David McCullough, Ron Chernow, and Carol Berkin on The History Channel.
Her fellowships include the American Council of Learned Societies, Dirkson Congressional Research Center, and a few more. Freeman earned (2001) Best Book Award, and (2017) William Clyde DeVane Teaching Awar.
