Jimmie Walker (June 25, 1947) is an American comedian and actor. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. In New York City, he went to Theodore Roosevelt High School. He completed his education and joined the radio engineering field with WRVR thanks to the New York State-funded SEEK (Search for Education, Evaluation, and Knowledge) program. Beginning with the 1964 World Series, Walker began his career as a Yankee Stadium hawker.
Walker joined the staff of WRVR, the Riverside Church radio station, full-time in 1967. After appearing on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In and the Jack Paar Show in 1969, Walker began a career as a stand-up comedian and was ultimately discovered by the casting director for Good Times. During the height of his fame in the Good Times era, he only put out one stand-up album: Buddah Records' Dyn-o-mite. (5635).
Walker was 26 during the 1974–75 season of Good Times, but his character was supposed to be much younger. Walker's father on Good Times was played by John Amos, who was only eight years older than his on-screen son. Walker says that "Dyn-o-mite!" was created by producer/director John Rich, who required him to say it in every show. Despite initial skepticism from Walker and executive director Norman Lear, the phrase and Walker's character became hits.
