Jennifer OConnor Information
Jennifer O'Connor (November 8, 1973) is an American singer and songwriter. She was born in Putnam, Connecticut. The Atlanta band Violet was her first taste of the stage. She left the group in 2000, relocated to New York City, and launched a solo career. She made ends meet by taking on several temporary positions at bookstores and record shops.
Truth Love Work, an EP she independently released in 2000, was her debut. In 2002, she self-released a full-length CD under the label Kiam Records, which bore her name her initials. In 2005, Red Panda Records issued her next album, The Color, and the Light. After hearing her play at the SXSW music festival, Matador Records signed her later that same year. After going through a rough year in which she lost her older sister to brain cancer, among other things, she wrote her debut novel for Matador, Over the Mountain, Across the Valley, and Back to the Stars.
In 1998, she lost a sibling in a vehicle crash. O'Connor continued running her own Kiam Records label and released records by various musicians even after signing with Matador. In 2007, she dropped a pair of 7-inch vinyl singles under the Kiam label. Her second album for Matador, Here With Me was released in 2008 and peppier than her debut.
