Janeane Garofalo (September 28, 1964) is an American actress, comedian, and former co-host of the Air America Radio show The Majority Report. She entered this world in the small New Jersey town of Newton. She started her career in stand-up comedy in the mid-1980s and has since won numerous honors and accolades for her humor. She frequently sported a look that was extremely mid-1980s: sloppy, with heavy black glasses and uncombed hair. Much of her humor is self-deprecating, and she has poked fun at things like the media's portrayal of women's bodies and the cultural pressures women face to conform to these ideals.
At her stand-up comedy shows, Garofalo often brings a notebook with her, in which she keeps snippets of news articles and notes from her daily life to use as direct quotes. Garofalo has stated that rather than telling jokes, she prefers to offer comedic observations. In the early 1990s, she was a part of the Los Angeles alternative comedy scene, performing at Un-Cabaret and other venues. She also co-created the "Eating It" alternative stand-up comedy show, which she frequently hosted and performed during its run at Luna Lounge on New York City's Lower East Side from 1995 to 2005.
