Jake Johannsen Information
Jake Johannsen is an actor, writer, and comedian born in Iowa City, Iowa. In the 1980s, Johannsen majored in veterinary medicine at Iowa State University before switching to chemical engineering. He dropped out of college after three years and moved to San Francisco, California, to seek a career in comedy. In 1986, Johannsen won the 11th Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition after his debut at Cobb's Comedy Club.
This'll Take About an Hour, a 1990s HBO comedy special starring Johannsen was named one of People Magazine's Ten Best Television Shows in 1992. He received a 1994 American Comedy Awards nomination for "Best Male Stand-Up Comedian."
Jerry Seinfeld claimed that Johannsen first turned down the job of George Costanza in Seinfeld because he didn't want to play the character. The Aristocrats editor Emery Emery directed and produced Johannsen's second comedy special; I Love You, which aired on Showtime in 2010. Johannsen starred in it.
Johannsen also served as the festival's opening night's headlining performer. The four-day event was concluded with a performance by Johannsen in 2010, at People's Court in downtown Des Moines.
