Jackson Galaxy Information
Jackson Galaxy (April 28, 1966) was born as Richard Kirschner, who is the host of the television show My Cat from Hell and a cat behaviorist. Galaxy is from Manhattan, NYC, and was raised on Manhattan's Upper West Side. At the age of two, he began playing guitar while aspiring to be a rockstar. Galaxy graduated in 1991 from the University of Iowa with a theater degree. During his twenties, he legally changed his name, and in 1992, he moved to Boulder, Colorado, and worked as a rock musician. During his work with rescue cats, he learned cat behavior initially with the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
In 2002, Galaxy went into private practice as a cat consultant. He co-founded Little Big Cat, Inc., with Dr. Jean Hofve. The two of them provided consultations to cat owners and were highly focused on the connection between physical and behavioral health. Galaxy relocated to Los Angeles in 2007 and re-established a private consulting practice. He worked one-on-one with cats in their homes, as well as with clients to improve their cats' behavioral issues to a great extent.
Galaxy also works with rescue organizations and animal shelters, where he teaches his "Cat Mojo" approach to feline behavior to volunteers, adopters, and staff. Galaxy has appeared as the cat behaviorist for Think Like a Cat by Game Show Network and appears as the cat behavior expert on Animal Planet's Cats 101. Many media outlets have featured him, such as The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post, 20/20, Extra, the New York Post, and AOL.
Galaxy has also published some bestselling books about cats and a process called "catification," which is all about creating cat-friendly spaces within a home. The books are "Catify to Satisfy: Simple Solutions for Creating a Cat-Friendly Home," "Catification: Designing a Happy and Stylish Home for Your Cat (and You!)," "Cat Daddy: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me About Life, Love, and Coming Clean," and lastly, "Total Cat Mojo: Everything You Need to Know to Care for Your Favorite Feline Friend."
