Hannibal Amir Buress is a comedian, writer, actor, and producer from Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago and went to Steinmetz College Prep. Later on, Buress attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale but never graduated. He was named after Hannibal Barca, a Carthaginian general. He initiated his stand-up career in 2002 at an open mic.
Buress has been featured on Comedy Central’s special, The Awkward Comedy Show, alongside comics Baron Vaughn, Marina Franklin, Eric Andre, and Victor Varnado. He was also seen on the FX hit sitcom named Louie. Buress successfully made Variety magazine’s “Ten Comics to Watch in 2010” list. My Name is Hannibal was his first stand-up comedy album that came out on July 27, 2010. He was a writer on Saturday Night Live from 2009 to 2010 but left with only one sketch on air.
Animal Furnace was another album by Buress that aired as a special on Comedy Central and earned positive reviews. Some of his other notable comedy albums include Live from Chicago (2014), Comedy Camisado (2016), Hannibal Takes Edinburgh (2016), and Miami Nights (2020). Buress has also appeared in two web series entitled Hot Ones 2018 and The Bob Ross Challenge (Mashable) 2020.
