Gilbert Gottfried Information
Gilbert Jeremy Gottfried (February 28, 1955) is an American actor and stand-up comedian. He was born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City's Coney Island neighborhood. When Gottfried was fifteen, he performed his debut routine on stage at The Bitter End in Greenwich Village during a Hootenanny Night event. His two sisters accompanied him because they thought their brother's family performances were excellent enough for the stage and encouraged Gottfried to try it out.
The producers of Saturday Night Live spotted Gottfried and engaged him as a cast member for season 6 in 1980 when the show was being retooled with a new team and new comedians. Gottfried's performance on SNL was significantly different from his subsequent portrayal: he seldom squinted and rarely spoke in his signature obnoxiously shrieking accent. Gottfried starred in a half-hour comedy special that aired as part of the Cinemax Comedy Experiment series in April 1987. It was followed by the comedy pilot Norman's Corner, which featured Gottfried as the eponymous character and was co-written by Larry David before the creation of Seinfeld.
Gottfried was the voice of Jerry the Belly Button Elf on Ren and Stimpy and appeared in The Amazing Live Sea Monkeys. In 1990, 1991, and 1992, he played the adoption agent Igor Peabody in Problem Child and Problem Child 2 and the parrot Iago in Aladdin.
