Frindle Information
Frindle is based on the American children's novel that was written by Andrew Clements. The novel was published on December 19, 1996, by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. Frindle won the 2016 Phoenix Award. The Children's Literature Association granted the award to the best English-language children's book that failed to win any significant awards 25 years back when it was released.
The plot of the Frindle revolves around Nicholas "Nick" Allen, who is a class clown. He has been formulating creative schemes throughout his grade school, and when he reached fifth grade, his English teacher, Mrs. Granger, is no-nonsense. Nick finds a gold pen in the street and decides a new name for it: Frindle. His classmates liked the word as it annoyed Mrs. Granger. Nick became so used to using that word that the situation is beyond Nick's control, and soon the word gains national attention.
Fast forward to the epilogue, Nick is a young adult, and he receives a new copy of the dictionary, which includes new words, even Frindle. The dictionary is by Mrs. Granger along with a letter that explains that she intentionally stood against the word to make it famous. Nick sends her a present, the gold pen he found.
Frindle was ranked number 38 among all-time children's novels in 2012 by a survey published by School Library Journal. It also received more than 35 awards and honors, including the Year 1999 Young Hoosier Book Award, 1998–99 Maud Hart Lovelace Award, and the Minnesota Youth Reading Award.
