Fred Pellerin Information
Fred Pellerin (November 22, 1976) is a Canadian musician and storyteller from Saint-Elie-de-Caxton, Quebec. He completed his graduation from the Universite du Quebec Trois-Rivieres. In the 2000s, Pellerin began performing and touring as a storyteller. He, along with his brother Nicolas, released their first album as a folk music duo. This album won a Prix Felix for Best Folk Album in 2008. Pellerin also appeared on TVA special by Celine Dion to promote her album entitled “Sans attendre” in 2012.
Luc Picard adapted one of Pellerin’s stories from his book II faut prendre le taureau par les contes in 2011 for Picard’s film named Babine. Picard released another film of an original Pellerin screenplay entitled “Esicmesac” in 2012. Pellerin also co-wrote the screenplay for the 2017 film named “Barefoot at Dawn” with Francis Leclerc, based on Felix Leclerc's novel. The third adaptation for Pellerin’s work was The Time Thief. It entered production in 2020 and to be released in 2021.
Fred Pellerin has won several Prix Felix from ADISQ. The government of Jean Charest named Pellerin to the National Order of Quebec in 2012. He also declined the honor in solidarity initially with the 2012 Quebec student protests.
Some of Pellerin’s discographies include Silence (2009), C’est un monde (2011), Plus tard qu’on pense (2014), and Aprés (2019). His notable books are Dans mon village, il y a belle lurette (2001), Comme une odeur de muscles (2005), Bois du thé fort, tu vas pisser drette! (2005).
