Farruquito Information
Farruquito, or Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya, is a legendary figure in the Flamenco culture. The flamenco singer Juan Fernández Flores 'El Moreno' and the dancer Rosario Montoya Manzano 'La Farruca' had him as a child. He is the leading exponent of the 'Farruco' style of dancing that his grandpa created. Since his Broadway debut in the play "Pure Flamenco" at the tender age of five, he has spent his entire life steeped in the purest form of Flamenco.
He gave his first seasonal performance at the Sala Zambra in Madrid when he was just eight years old, and at age 12, he starred in Carlo Saura's film "Flamenco" alongside the family patriarch, El Farruco. In the same year, he participated in the artistic and choreographic development of the family show Bodas de Gloria. At the 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona, he performed alongside his grandfather in the exhibition "Presente, Pasado y Futuro" at the Andaluca Pavilion of the Seville Universal Exposition.
After Farruco's untimely demise in 1997, the mantle of keeping the family name alive was passed to Farruquito. Races Flamecas, the show he produced at age 15, established him as a groundbreaking dancer who integrates a deep understanding of Flamenco's history with a tremendous sense of his artistic vision.
