Dima Slobodeniouk Information
Dima Slobodiouk (1975) is a Russian conductor. Slobodeniouk began his violin lessons as a young boy in Moscow between 1980 and 1989 at the Moscow Central Music School, where Zinaida Gilels taught him. At the young age of seventeen, he moved to Finland. Slobodeniouk went on to study violin at the Sibelius Academy and Central Finland Conservatory. At the Sibelius Academy, he took conducting lessons from Leif Segerstam, Jorma Panula, and Atso Almila.
From 2004 through 2006, Slobodeniouk was Kymi Sinfonietta's principal guest conductor. Between 2005 and 2008, he led the Oulu Symphony Orchestra as its principal conductor (Oulu Sinfonia). During 2007 and 2009, he oversaw the Korsholm Music Festival as its artistic director. Slobodeniouk led the Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia as a special guest conductor in November 2012. (OSG). Based on this performance, the OSG announced Slobodeniouk as its new principal conductor in February 2013. His tenure will begin with the next 2013-2014 season.
The OSG renewed his initial contract in March 2015 and kept him on board until 2019. Slobodeniouk and the OSG renewed his contract in July 2018 to keep him with the organization until 2022. As of the 2016-2017 season, Slobodeniouk has been leading the Sinfonia Lahti as its head conductor. His initial Lahti contract was renewed to 2021 in April 2016. It was his last season as Sinfonia Lahti's main conductor, ending in 2020–2021. One of his commercial releases is an album of Lotta Wennäkoski's compositions.
