Derek Hough Information
Derek Bruce Hough (May 17, 1985) is an American ballroom and Latin dancer, singer, actor, and choreographer born in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents met on the collegiate ballroom dancing team in Idaho, and both sets of grandparents were dancers. He shares the same ancestor with R5 bandmates Riker, Rydel, Rocky, Ryland, and Ross Lynch, making them second cousins twice removed.
In week 6 of season 4, Hough joined Julianne and Apolo Anton Ohno as guest instructors on Dancing with the Stars. Hough and Ballas invested in a property to quickly sell it for a profit. HGTV aired a four-part series called Mark & Derek's Excellent Flip, documenting the home renovation process. In the early months of 2015, the show debuted.
Hough co-starred with Lindsey Stirling and choreographed the music video for "The Arena" in 2016. Hough participated in the 2017 Red Nose Day Celebrity Edition of American Ninja Warrior. In a 2017 interview with Billboard, Hough said he would be contributing vocals to the 2018 album Ember by the alternative metal band Breaking Benjamin.
Hough hosted an NBC special titled "Return to Downton Abbey: A Grand Event" in September 2019. Hough got appendicitis in November of 2019 and had to have emergency surgery to remove it. After recovery, he posted a video of himself dancing with Hayley Erbert. He inked a comprehensive contract with ABC Entertainment in September of 2020.
