Dean Edwards Information
Dean Edwards (July 30, 1970) is an American musician, singer, writer, actor, and stand-up comedian. He was born in The Bronx, New York City. Edwards gained fame as a clean worker and a stand-up comedy instructor. As a voice actor, Edwards has contributed to Celebrity Deathmatch and Robotomy titles. He also provided his vocal talents for the audiobook adaptation of World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks.
After Eddie Murphy declined to portray Donkey in the 2010 Halloween special Scared Shrekless, Edwards stepped in and made a good impression of Murphy's vocal performance. Soon after, Eddie Murphy reprised his role as Donkey in the 2010 holiday special Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular, thus replacing Edwards. In 2001, Edwards became a regular cast member of SNL.
He learned to imitate several famous people, including Michael Jackson, Wayne Brady, Chris Tucker, Don Cheadle, Colin Powell, Serena Williams, Nipsey Russell, Grace Jones, Randy Jackson, Redman, Denzel Washington, and Billy Ocean. Despite Edwards's obvious impression talent, he was only on the show briefly. Creative issues led to his departure following the show's 28th season 2003. He imitated Savion Glover and Don Cheadle in the SNL Weekend Update Halftime Special.
