David Sedaris Information
David Raymond Sedaris (December 26, 1956) is an American stand-up comedian, writer, and radio host. His "Santaland Diaries" article was broadcast on National Public Radio, bringing him widespread acclaim in 1992. Barrel Fever, a collection of essays and short tales, was published under his name in 1994. Me Talk Pretty One Day, a collection of his essays published in 2000, received the Thurber Prize for American Humor and became his first New York Times bestseller.
Sedaris' humor frequently features self-deprecating autobiography. Topics that frequently come up in his writing include his family, his middle-class upbringing, his Greek heritage, his homosexuality, his jobs, his education, and his obsessive behaviors, as well as his time spent in France, London, New York, and the South Downs of England.
In June of 2004, Sedaris released Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, quickly becoming the world's best-selling nonfiction book. There was a Grammy Award nomination for Best Spoken Word Album for Sedaris's reading of Dress Your Family.
The second season of the six-part BBC Radio 4 Extra series premiered in June 2011, and the third season premiered in September 2012. The sixth season premiered in July 2017 on BBC Radio 4 Extra.
Sedaris was selected for induction into the Academy of Arts and Letters in 2019. He wrote about the loss of his father and their complicated relationship in Happy Go Lucky, released in 2022.
