Darrell Hammond Information
Darrell Clayton Hammond (October 8, 1955) is an American impressionist, stand-up comedian, and actor. He was born in Melbourne, Florida. He was a baseball player in high school and at Brevard Community College. He was a high school teammate of Bruce Bochy, the future manager of the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants. Hammond relocated to New York City after finishing college. He worked as a waiter, trained at HB Studio, appeared in theatrical plays, and performed one set at a comedy club at 26. He returned to Florida to work as a voiceover artist in the Orlando region.
From 1995 through 2009, Hammond was a member of the Saturday Night Live cast. Until Kenan Thompson beat him in 2017, he held the record for the longest consecutive tenure of any SNL cast member in the show's history (14 seasons). He also holds the record for the most impressions by a single cast member, second only to Thompson, and the most times pronouncing the show's slogan "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" to open the show.
After a record-breaking 14 years, Hammond left the program at the end of the 34th season. Hammond was the last member of the original cast of Saturday Night Live from the 1990s to quit the show. He has made several cameo appearances since leaving the show.
