Dara O Briain Information
Dara Ó Briain (February 4, 1972) is an Irish comedian and television presenter from Bray, County Wicklow. His genre is mainly observational comedy, and he is currently based in the US. Ó Briain attended Coláiste Eoin secondary school, located on Dublin's southside. Later, he attended University College, Dublin (UCD), and studied mathematics along with theoretical physics. During his time at UCD, Ó Briain was the auditor of the Literary and Historical Society in addition to being the co-founder/co-editor of the university's college newspaper. Ó Briain won The Irish Times/Gael Linn National Irish language debating championship and Irish Times National Debating Championship in 1994.
Ó Briain began working at RTÉ as a children's TV presenter after leaving university. At the same time, he was performing his first stand-up gigs on the Irish comedy circuit. He was a presenter on the bilingual (Irish and English) children's program named Echo Island for three years. Ó Briain also hosted It's A Family Affair that is an RTÉ family entertainment gameshow.
Ó Briain toured heavily performing across Europe, Asia, Australia, and North America. He was a regular at the Edinburgh Festival and Kilkenny Cat Laughs. He also made a notable appearance at the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal in 2002. The Panel was hosted by Ó Briain and got three nominations for the Best Entertainment show IFTA. He also holds the record for the highest number of appearances on the BBC stand-up showcase, Live at the Apollo, at seven times.
