Cirque de la Symphonie Information
Cirque de la Symphonie is a touring circus ensemble founded in 2005 by William H. Allen and Alexander Streltsov in Athens, Georgia. A range of minimalist contemporary circus acts is synchronized to the music of a live symphony orchestra during its presentations. The Cirque has received a favorable commercial and critical response, with most shows selling out and receiving positive reviews from reviewers.
While traveling in Russia and working with Russian circus performers in the 1990s, Allen had the notion of combining circus with fine art. He invited Streltsov to work with him in the United States while he was there. Allen began putting on events involving circus performers and local orchestras in 1991. As a result, the orchestra is always on stage with the acrobats, never in an orchestra pit.
Cirque de la Symphonie only performs with live symphony orchestras, with circus performances choreographed to the orchestra's music. Cirque de la Symphonie has collaborated with over 100 orchestras worldwide, including shows in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Selections from the classical canon, passages from ballets, portions of movie soundtracks, and other pops orchestra standbys may be included in the music, which is chosen in consultation with each orchestra's conductor.
