Cinderella Ballet was composed between 1940 and 1944 and premiered on November 21, 1945, and was conducted by Yuri Fayer. The event took place at the Bolshoi Theatre, with choreography by Rostislav Zakharov along with Galina Ulanova in the title role.
Cinderella The Ballet is notable for its jubilant music, comic roles of the step-sisters, and triumphant music. The ballet is created for a large orchestra consisting two clarinets, a bass clarinet, two bassoons, a piccolo, two flutes, two oboes, a cor anglais, a contrabassoon, four horns, three trumpets, snare drum, maracas, tambourine, tenor drum, three trombones, a tuba, timpani, triangle, castanets, cymbals, bass drum, tam-tam, tubular bells, a piano, a harp, glockenspiel, xylophone, woodblock, and strings.
The music from the ballet, published before its premiere, includes Three Pieces from Cinderella, Op. 95 (1942), Ten Pieces from Cinderella, Op. 97 (1943), and Six Pieces from Cinderella, Op. 102 (1944). On the other hand, extracts from Cinderella authorized by the composer are Suite No. 1 from Cinderella, Op. 107, Suite No. 2 from Cinderella, Op. 108, and Suite No. 3 from Cinderella, Op. 109.
