Christopher Neal Jackson is an American actor, musician, singer, and composer from Metropolis, Illinois. He grew up in Cairo, Illinois, and graduated from Cairo High School in 1993. Jackson performed in plays and was encouraged to pursue a career as an actor by high school teachers. Lynn Steveson cast Jackson in a production of Arthur Miller entitled The Crucible. Some of his other mentors include Pastor Larry Potts of Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center and Pilots basketball coach Larry Baldwin. Later on, Jackson attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (NYC).
Jackson began his official career in 1995 when he starred in the Off-Broadway musical entitled Time and the Wind by composer Galt MacDermot. His Broadway debut was made in 1997 in the Original Broadway Cast of The Lion King, as an ensemble member and understudy for Simba. In 2000, he took over the role of Simba.
Some of Jackson's other notable theater works include Time and the Wind, 1996; Bobo's, 1996; Beggar's Holiday as Happy Mac, 2004; and in Hamilton as George Washington, Broadway, 2015-2016. Jackson also composed two hit films: You'll Be a Man..., a documentary in 2012, and Broken Aster, a short film in 2013.
Jackson's impressive discographies are In The Heights, 2009; In the Name of Love, 2011; Hamilton, 2015; Moana, 2016; and "Life is Sweet" (Fearless, Mandy Gonzalez), 2017. He has won many awards in his career, including Joseph Jefferson Award 2006, Drama Desk Award 2007, Daytime Emmy Award 2014, and Grammy Award 2016.
