Butler Ballet Information
Butler Ballet is the pre-professional performing ensemble of Butler University's Jordan College of the Arts Department of Dance. The dance program is routinely recognized among the top five in the country, and it has been accredited since 1992. The dance faculty comprises a varied mix of artists and professors who have had national and international careers before coming to Butler.
Modern, jazz, character dance, improvisation, world dance, and choreography are all part of this professional training curriculum, which aims to produce versatile, well-rounded dancers ready for the professional stage. Butler has a long tradition of providing excellent dance education and professional-level performance, dating back to the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music.
The Butler Ballet produces three professionally produced dance performances each year. Two of these concerts showcase the 19th and 20th-century classical ballet repertoire, presented with live music in Clowes Memorial Hall. The third concert is a mixed-bill program that includes original works by the company's resident choreographers and a licensed work by a renowned 20th-century choreographer or a freshly commissioned work made for the group by a contemporary dance artist.
