BET Awards Information
The Black Entertainment Television network in the United States launched the BET Awards in 2001 to honor Black and minority performers, directors, athletes, and nonprofit workers. Every year, BET airs live coverage of the awards ceremony. Artists perform at the yearly presenting ceremony, and some popular prizes are handed out during a broadcast program.
The Paris Las Vegas, a resort on the Las Vegas Strip, hosted the inaugural event in 2001. The Kodak Theatre in Hollywood was the ceremony's site from 2002 to 2005. The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles served as the ceremony venue from 2006 to 2012. The 2013 event took place at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre.
About 500 individuals from the music industry, including members of the press and bloggers, make up the voting academy, which is responsible for the nomination process. Voters can nominate worthy works and artists across all categories through BET's electronic ballot system. Yangaroo, Inc., a prominent digital distribution organization, compiles the nominations and voting ballots. They help put on other televised award shows, including those of BET's sister networks that Paramount Global owns.
