Ballet Midwest Information
Located in the heart of historic downtown Council Bluffs, Iowa, it is the home of the American Midwest Ballet. In 2019, the company took over the facility previously rented by Motion 41, a dance school and youth studio. American Midwest Ballet School is the new name for the facility. The Nutcracker, a holiday classic, is performed by the group every year with the help of local student dancers. Ann Reinking, Peter Anastos, and Frank Chaves are just a few guest choreographers who have contributed to previous shows.
The American Midwest Ballet has performed various works, including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Alice in Wonderland, and The Wizard of Oz. They also did adaptations of "Dracula" and "Snow White." The Midwest American Ballet has recently launched a new series called Going Solo, which encourages company artists of the Midwest American Ballet to create solo dance works that reflect their visions as part of the company's ongoing commitment to finding innovative ways to share the magic of dance with their community.
Documentary filmmaker Lance Glenn is brought in once the choreography is finished to create videos of the chosen pieces, which offer a rare glimpse into the creative process while also providing an insightful visual take on the final performance. Whenever a new piece is finished, it is immediately premiered on their website and various social media outlets for their fans to enjoy.
