Ballet Folklorico Information
The Ballet Folklórico de México performs traditional Mexican folk dances in Mexico City. For 60 years, it has shown traditional Mexican dances dressed in elaborate costumes. The group has performed in Amalia Hernández's Ballet Folklórico de México. Amalia Hernández formed the organization in 1952, and by the end of the decade, it had expanded from eight members to fifty. The foursome officially represented Mexico at the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago.
The music and dances represent many different parts of Mexico. Indigenous Mesoamerican cultural traditions are reflected in several of the ensemble's compositions. Individual dances might have anywhere from two to more than 35 dancers. They were trailblazers in Mexican folk dancing under Amalia Hernández's direction. Many individuals in Mexico and the U.S. do it.
The group's 1963 LP album Ballet Folklórico de México was released by Mexican RCA Records on the 'Living Stereo' label. The LP record includes the following songs: El Patito, Flor De Piña, and El Sapo. The group plays thrice weekly at Mexico City's Palace of Fine Arts. In addition to its extensive U.S. tour, it has also been performed in more than 80 countries.
