Andrew Yang Information
Andrew (Yuan-Du) Yang is an American creative director, entrepreneur, and artist. He was born in Orem, Utah, and is best known for co-founding the film and production company called SWOON NYC, although he currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Yang attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where he received a degree in women’s wear design. He worked at Proenza Schouler as an intern after completing his graduation.
Yang joined the design team of Dennis Basso in 2006, based in New York City. During his initial years, Yang also worked as an art and fashion model. Soon after, he began collaborating with photographers Jessica Yatrofsky and Gigi Stoll. Yang created his first doll in 2008, and during the same time, he launched his first brand called The Kouklitas. After his first collection, Yang was commissioned by a stylist named James Worthington Demolet. He wanted Yang to create several looks for The Block Magazine from the spring 2010 RTW collections photographed by Dan Forbes; the editorial soon went viral.
Anna Wintour recommended Yang to Barney’s New York. He also created 200 dolls for Fashion’s Night Out. Aside from SWOON, he also co-created the award-winning short film entitled “Swoon Ephemere.” Yang is the first American artist invited to creatively direct the prestigious Galeries Lafayette Christmas windows in Paris, France, and design all the puppets for them. Yang released a dolls’ likeness collection of his Great Grandmother in 2018.
