Alice Returns to Wonderland Information
Jack Murphy and Gregory Boyd wrote the book for Wonderland, which was later renamed Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure. Frank Wildhorn composed the music, and Jack Murphy wrote the lyrics. New York City is the setting for this contemporary retelling of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871) novels, which center on writer Alice Cornwinkle and her daughter Chloe, who is ten years old.
After previews began on March 21, 2011, the musical made its Broadway opening at the Marquis Theatre on April 17, 2011. Alice (Jatet Dacal), White Knight (Darren Ritchie), Jack/Lewis Carroll (José Llana), Queen of Hearts (Karen Mason), Mad Hatter (Kate Shindle), Chloe (Carly Rose Sonenclar), and White Rabbit (Edward Staudenmayer) were cast members.
The musical premiered at Tuacahn Center for the Arts in May 2022 with a new script by Gabriel Barre and Jennifer Paulson-Lee. Over 160 performers, including Kim Scharnberg's new symphonic orchestrations, took the stage in December 2022 for the musical's Youth Premiere presented by Young Artists of America at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD.
