Aladdin Broadway is a famous musical featuring music by Alan Menken and a book by Chad Beguelin. The lyrics are by Howard Ashman, Tim Rice, and Beguelin, based on the Disney animated feature film 1992. It has four new songs composed by Menken and Beguelin and three songs from the original soundtrack that were cut from the film.
The movie takes place in the made-up Arabian city of Agrabah. It tells the classic tale of a poor young man who is granted three wishes by a genie in a lamp. The man uses them to win the heart of a beautiful princess and defeat the sultan's tyrannical Grand Vizier.
In 2011, Aladdin made its debut at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. The musical premiered in Toronto in 2013, following several regional and international productions in 2012. The New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway hosted the world premiere on March 20, 2014. Since then, subsequent productions have been seen worldwide.
As of August 2022, it has made $500 million at Broadway theaters, making it the 10th highest-grossing Broadway show ever. By 2022, almost 14 million individuals worldwide had already witnessed it.
