Al Franken Information
Al Franken (May 21, 1951) is an American media personality, politician, comedian, writer, and actor born in New York City. From 1975 to 1980 and from 1985 through 1995, Franken and Tom Davis were two original writers and occasional performers of Saturday Night Live. The two apprentice writers of SNL split a $350 weekly salary during the show's first season.
While writing and producing for television, Franken garnered fifteen Emmy nominations and five wins, including one for his work with the character Stuart Smalley, a self-help guru. Norm Coleman, an incumbent Republican senator, was defeated by 312 votes out of nearly three million cast, making Franken's 2008 election to the United States Senate one of the most closely contested in Senate history. Franken was the nominee of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.
In 2014, he easily defeated his Republican opponent, Mike McFadden, and was reelected with 53.2% of the vote. Following the allegation of sexual misconduct, Franken tendered his resignation on January 2, 2018. Franken announced he would host a SiriusXM radio show every Saturday morning in September 2019. It delves into entertainment, politics, and world events.
