Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations is a 2018 jukebox musical written by Dominique Morisseau and featuring music and lyrics by The Temptations. It premiered in 2018. The musical, based on the life of The Temptations, premiered at Broadway's Imperial Theatre in March 2019, following a successful run at many smaller theaters.
The show opened on August 31, 2017, with an official press premiere on September 14, 2017, and ran for a limited engagement through November 5, 2017. Des McAnuff supervised the production as director, and Sergio Trujillo created the choreography.
A stunning 42 of their singles charted in the top ten, including 14 that went to number one. The unstoppable gang has dealt with various internal and external issues in the past. These disagreements attempted to disrupt the group's unity. The musical ran at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, from June 19, 2018, through July 22, 2018, after it ended at Berkeley Rep. Previews for the musical began on February 28, 2019, at the Imperial Theatre, with the opening night set for March 21, 2019.
On March 31, 2023, a production opened at the Prince Edward Theatre in the West End. On September 17, 2023, the last performance will occur at the Prince Edward Theatre. Originally, the show was scheduled to air until January 7, 2024.
