Wichita Thunder Information
The Wichita Thunder play ice hockey in the minor leagues out of Wichita, Kansas. Since the 2014–15 season, the club has competed in the Eastern Conference, having previously played in the Central Hockey League from 1992–2014. Britt Brown Arena, in Park City, a suburb of Wichita, was home to the Thunder from 1992 until December 2009.
The Intrust Bank Arena, which had just been constructed, became the team's home field in January 2010 for the second part of the 2009–10 season. Currently, the San Jose Sharks' ECHL affiliate is the Thunder. Randy Lee, the associate general manager of the Ottawa Senators, said on July 4, 2016, that the franchise was in talks to become affiliated with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2016–17 season. Final confirmation of affiliation with the Binghamton Senators, an American Hockey League affiliate of the Senators, came on July 14.
The Thunder switched allegiances after the first season, signing with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors and the NHL's Edmonton Oilers. After three years and a single postseason appearance, no one offered Cameron a contract extension. Bruce Ramsay, who had previously coached the Tulsa Oilers, was named Cameron's replacement by the Thunder on May 15, 2019.
