Kelowna Rockets Information
Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, is home to the Kelowna Rockets, a junior ice hockey club. As a Canadian Hockey League (CHL) member, the Rockets compete in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Their home stadium is Prospera Place. A four-time WHL champion, the Rockets have reached the Memorial Cup finals three times, with a single victory. In 2004, the same year they were chosen to host the Memorial Cup, the Rockets became the first franchise to win the trophy.
When they first started in 1991, they were known as the Tacoma Rockets. They played their home games at the Tacoma Dome and were based in Tacoma, Washington. The club played home games at Memorial Arena in Kelowna before the 1995–96 season. They relocated to Prospera Place, their new home arena, after the 1998–99 season. Ogopogo, the fabled monster of Okanagan Lake, inspires the team's emblem.
When the Rockets defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-0 in the 2015 WHL championships, they ended a five-year drought in which they failed to earn a spot in the Memorial Cup. They advanced to the tournament's semi-finals with a record of 1 win and two losses. In the semi-finals, the Rockets defeated the Quebec Remparts 9-3 to advance to face the Oshawa Generals.
