Seattle Thunderbirds Information
Kent, Washington, is home to the Seattle Thunderbirds, a top junior ice hockey club just south of Seattle. They play in the Western Hockey League's U.S. Division and are members of the Western Conference. At home, in accesso ShoWare Center, they play their games. Originally established in 1971 as the WCHL's Vancouver Nats, the franchise changed its name to the Kamloops Chiefs in 1973 after relocating to British Columbia's capital city.
After relocating to Seattle in 1977, the club changed its name to the Seattle Breakers. The Seattle Center Ice Arena, where the Breakers played, could hold 4,141 ice hockey fans. The Breakers participated twice in the West Division Finals during their eight-season run, but their regular-season record was 225 wins, 319 losses, and 32 ties. In the playoffs, they had 11 wins and 21 losses.
Having come so close to winning it all in 2022 and '23, Seattle is getting ready to do it all over again. The effort was rewarded with the team's best season ever. Rapidly establishing themselves as the Western Conference leaders, Seattle swiftly rose to the top spot. They became the first team in franchise history to finish the regular season with 54 victories and 111 points, securing the top seed in the Western Conference. And with 155 goals allowed, Seattle tied for the league lead. The Thunderbirds and the Kelowna Rockets met again in the 2022 playoffs.
