SDSU Stampede Rodeo Information
South Dakota State University has been hosting this exciting event at the Swiftel Center in Brookings, South Dakota, for almost six exciting decades. The rodeo spans two days in early April. It includes bareback riding, barrel racing, breakaway roping, bull riding, goat tying, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down roping, all of which have been sanctioned by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
The Jackrabbits, the South Dakota State University collegiate rodeo team, have competed in the Great Plains Region since 1952. The school regularly fields more than 40 riders in rodeos in South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. During a season, they will travel over 5,500 miles to compete. Through this training, many students have qualified for national competitions and won regional titles. College students can thrive in rodeo while pursuing a well-rounded education thanks to the availability of indoor and outdoor practice facilities, a dedicated rodeo coach, and practice stock for all events.
