Rochester Americans Information
The Buffalo Sabres own and manage the professional ice hockey team, the Rochester Americans, which plays in the American Hockey League. The Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial in Rochester, New York, is the site of the team's home games. The Americans have been in their present arena for the second-longest period among American Hockey League teams, trailing only the Hershey Bears, and they are the fourth-oldest club in the league.
In June 1956, the Pittsburgh Hornets were compelled to stop operations following demolishing their arena, the Duquesne Gardens, as part of an urban renewal project. As a result, Rochester was granted a new franchise. The league allowed Rochester to field a team because the Hornets' franchise was in jeopardy until a new facility could be constructed.
The three colors of the American flag are red, white, and blue. The emblem is a patriotic badge bearing the word "Americans" in cursive calligraphy. The Americans have made it to the Cup finals ten times but have only won the Calder Cup 6 times. After placing third in the North Division in the 2022–23 season, the Americans again earned a spot in the playoffs. They met division rival Syracuse in the playoffs.
