Pro Rodeo Information
The PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) is the world's premier rodeo organization. It sanctioned events, including members from the US, Canada, and Mexico. The National Finals Rodeo is its pinnacle event. Colorado Springs, Colorado, is home to the PRCA's main office.
In 1936, the club came into being when several cowboys left a rodeo at Boston Garden to protest against W.T. Johnson, the producer, for not including the cowboys' entrance fees in the overall purse of the event.
Johnson eventually gave in to the demands of the Cowboys, and the successful "strike" resulted in the establishment of the Cowboys' Turtle Association, which was finally successful.
During the rodeo season, the PRCA workforce increases from 70 full-time personnel to over 100. The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy are in the PRCA headquarters erected in 1979 in Colorado Springs. As of 2006, the PRCA is a member of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame.
