Princeton Tigers Mens Hockey Information
As a member of the elite Division I of the NCAA, Princeton University fields a men's ice hockey team known as the Tigers. In ice hockey, the Tigers compete in the ECAC. Hobey Baker Memorial Rink is where they play when they are in Princeton, New Jersey. A future NHL player, Jeff Halpern, shared Princeton University's 1999 Roper Trophy for athletic and intellectual excellence. Halpern scored 22 goals that season, tying for the most in the ECAC. Andrew Calof was honored as the ECAC's top rookie player in 2010–11.
Already in the 1894–95 season, when the university was still known as the College of New Jersey, an ice hockey team was formed at Princeton University. At the North Avenue Ice Palace in Baltimore, Maryland, on March 3, 1895, the university ice hockey team defeated a Baltimore group by scoring 5-0. Chester Derr, John Brooks, Howard Colby, James Blair, Frederick Allen, Ralph Hoagland, and Art Wheeler were the members of the 1895 squad.
The Princeton Tigers ice hockey team joined the Intercollegiate Hockey League (ICHL) for the 1899–1900 season, giving them access to league competition against other Ivy League schools like Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn, and Yale.
