Pittsburgh Riverhounds Information
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is a professional American soccer team. They are currently based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The team was founded in 1999 and started playing in 1999. The team plays in the Eastern Conference of the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. The Riverhounds plays its home games at the Highmark Stadium, with a seating capacity of 5,000 people, located in Station Square. The stadium was initially designed to accommodate 3,500 spectators, although; it can be expanded to 18,500 people. The team announced in 2013 its intention to join Major League Soccer by 2023.
The Riverhounds unveiled its new crest as part of its rebranding on February 16, 2018. The crest was designed by an Oregon-based graphic designer, Brian Gundell. The first supporter group of the team was formed called, The Steel Army in November 2007. There were 5-10 locals in the group interested in supporting the reorganized Riverhounds Soccer Clubs. The Steel Army had strong rivalries with the Rochester Rhinos and United Soccer League, but both clubs moved to USL League One later on. Currently, the head coach is Bob Lilley.
