Peoria Rivermen Information
Dave Checketts put St. Louis Blues, Peoria Rivermen, and Scottrade Center for sale in 2011. Tom Stillman bought the Peoria Rivermen franchise on May 10, 2012. As of August 30, the Rivermen severed relations with the Alaska Aces, with whom they had been linked since joining the AHL, and inked a one-year affiliation deal with the Evansville IceMen, an expansion club in the ECHL.
The Vancouver Canucks acquired the Rivermen on March 29, 2013. The Peoria Rivermen were sold to the Vancouver Canucks by the AHL on April 18, 2013. The Vancouver Canucks and the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League (AHL) announced their decision not to re-establish the team and play their home games in Peoria on May 13, 2013, in a meeting with officials from the Peoria Civic Center.
The 2013–14 AHL season saw the franchise's move to Utica, New York, as the Utica Comets, as announced by the AHL on June 14, 2013. In 2013, the name and logo of the Rivermen were adopted by a Southern Professional Hockey League club, which succeeded the AHL version of the club.
