Pensacola Ice Flyers Information
The Pensacola Ice Flyers are a professional ice hockey team that competes in the SPHL. During the 2009–2010 season, the squad competed for the first time. Games are played at the Pensacola Bay Centre, once the home of the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the Eastern Conference Hockey League (ECHL) from 1996 until their dissolution in 2008.
At the same time that it is a tribute to Pensacola's rich history in naval aviation (Naval Air Station Pensacola is the location of the illustrious Blue Angels and the National Museum of Naval Aviation), the name "Ice Flyers" is also a tribute to the original owner, Tim Kerr, who had previously spent eleven seasons playing for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League.
In the third and final game of the President's Cup finals, which took place on April 14, 2013, the Ice Flyers defeated the Huntsville Havoc by a score of 2-0 to capture the franchise's first President's Cup.
Furthermore, the victory led to the establishment of the first professional sports championship for the city of Pensacola. Following that, the Ice Flyers have been victorious in the playoff championship in 2014, 2016, and 2021.
