NJ/NY Gotham FC Information
NJ/NY Gotham FC is an American professional women’s soccer team based in Harrison, New Jersey. The team was founded in 2006 as Jersey Sky Blue, and it was known as Sky Blue FC from 2008 until 2020. From 2009 to 2011, Sky Blue FC played in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). Gotham FC became part of the larger Sky Blue Soccer organization based in Somerset County, New Jersey. It was an integrated program that allowed players to progress in soccer from a young age with an opportunity for long-term growth.
The first head coach and general manager for the Sky Blue FC were Ian Sawyers, who was appointed on March 5, 2008. It was announced in November 2012 that Sky Blue FC would be one of eight teams in a newly formed women’s professional soccer league that was sponsored by the United States Soccer Federation, the Mexican Football Federation, and the Canadian Soccer Association. The National Women’s Soccer League began in spring 2013.
Sky Blue FC announced its agreement with Major League Soccer club, the New York Red Bulls, in November 2019. The following season, Sky Blue FC began to play its home matches at Red Bull Arena. Currently, Freya Coombe is the head coach for the team. The official broadcasters for the team are Go90 (for American audiences) and the NWSL website for international viewers. Players who have played the most number of matches for Gotham FC include Sarah Woldmoe (116 matches), Erica Skroski (94), Taylor Lytle (82), and Raquel Rodriguez (76).
