NHRA Gatornationals Information
The Gatornationals is a national drag racing event held in March at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida. It is put on by the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The inaugural edition of the tournament took place in 1970.
The first of sixteen races for the Pro Stock Motorcycle riders and the first of ten for the NHRA this season, as is customary on the East Coast. Pro Mod Drag Racing Series competitors from Get Screened America return to their place at the top of the schedule.
When Joe Amato ran 260 mph in Top Fuel in 1984, and Kenny Bernstein ran 300 mph in Funny Car in 1992, the Gatornationals were the drag race that saw those firsts. Don Garlits ran 270 mph in 1986, and Bernstein ran 300 mph in 1992. Among the tour's longer concrete launchpads, its length is 675 feet.
After the Winternationals, U.S. Nationals, and NHRA Finals, the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals became the fourth-oldest running event on the NHRA Professional series in 2014, marking its 45th year of competition. The current race sponsor, Amalie Oil Company, was one of the event's original sponsors. MAC Tools has also sponsored this event in the past.
