New Japan Pro-Wrestling Co., Ltd (NJPW) is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion. The company is based in Nakano, Tokyo. NJPW was founded on January 13, 1972, by Antonio Inoki. The promotion was sold to Yuke’s, who sold it later in 2012 to Bushiroad. Since September 2013, Naoki Sugabayashi has been the Chairman of (NJPW) whereas Takami Ohbari has served as the President since October 2020.
NJPW is known as the longest-running as well as the largest professional wrestling promotion in Japan. The promotion was affiliated with the National Wrestling Alliance. They have had agreements with several professional wrestling promotions and MMA around the world such as Jersey All Pro Wrestling, Pride Fighting Championships, Ring of Honor, UWFI, WAR, Impact Wrestling, World Class Championship Wrestling, American Wrestling Association, World Championship Wrestling, All Elite Wrestling, and WWE.
The biggest event for NJPW is Tokyo Dome Show that took place on January 4, 1992. It is currently promoted under the Wrestle Kingdom banner. The promotion hosted its first-ever pay-per-view (PPV) event as the Wrestle Kingdom I in 2007. NJPW debuted another series in August 2010 named NEVER. It was designed to be a series of events.
NJPW has its titles such as KOPW Trophy, Strong Openweight Championships, NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team, NEVER Openweight, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team, IWGP Tag Team, IWGP Junior Heavyweight, IWGP United States Heavyweight, and IWGP World Heavyweight. Some of the current champions in NJPW include Shingo Takagi (IWGP World Heavyweight Championship), Hiroshi Tanahashi (IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship), and Tom Lawlor (Strong Openweight Championship).
