In 2012, the Montgomery Black Rodeo was hosted for the first time. The yearly event is held at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery, Alabama, and is slated to occur in the springtime most years. The Southeastern Rodeo Association, LLC is responsible for putting on this event. The Montgomery Black Rodeo is a one-day event that involves not only the most dangerous cowboys but also a historically interesting one because all of the cowboys and cowgirls competing in the rodeo are African American.
Most cowboys in the South were of African American descent, making it possible for the rodeo to be historically accurate. The events of the Montgomery Black Rodeo include a wide variety of competitions, such as bareback riding on cows and bulls, steer wrestling, team, and calf roping, and of course, barrel racing. Other competitions include steer wrestling and team roping. This activity is enjoyable for the entire family as each member can converse with cowboys and come face to face with various animals, including horses, cows, and even a few broncos.
