Minnesota Frost Information
PWHL Minnesota is a professional ice hockey club in the Great Lakes State. It was one of the first six teams to form the Professional Women's Hockey League.
On August 29, 2023, it was announced that Minnesota would be home to one of the first six PWHL clubs. The squad's general manager is Natalie Darwitz, a three-time Olympic champion and former US national team captain. The club's inaugural head coach was revealed on September 15 as Charlie Burggraf, a former head coach of the men's and women's teams at Bethel University.
This club added US national team players Kendall Coyne Schofield, Kelly Pannek, and Lee Stecklein during the first free-agency period of the league. Through a lottery, the Minnesota Wild picked the Minnesota Golden Gophers' Taylor Heise as the first overall choice in the first Professional Women's Hockey League draft.
In November, it was announced that the Minnesota Wild would play at Saint Paul's Xcel Energy Center and that the state's official colors would be purple, black, and white.
Coyne Schofield was named team captain before the first game in January 2024, with Pannek and Stecklein serving as assistant captains. The squad's inaugural game was a January 3 matchup with Boston at Lowell, Massachusetts.
