Michigan Wolverines Mens Hockey Information
The Michigan Wolverines men's ice hockey team plays for the University of Michigan. Having varsity standing in 1922, the team has participated in 102 seasons. The squad participated in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) from 1959 and 1981, then joined the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) until the 2012–13 season. Beginning its hockey sponsorship in 2013–14, the Wolverines have participated in the Big Ten.
Michigan became the first school in NCAA Division I history to have three teammates selected in the first round of the NHL Draft at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The Buffalo Sabres selected Owen Power first overall; Matty Beniers was selected second by the Seattle Kraken; the Columbus Bleachers selected Kent Johnson fifth overall.
First-year recruits The New Jersey Devils drafted Luke Hughes fourth overall; the Florida Panthers selected Mackie Samoskevich twenty-fourth overall. Michigan became the first program with five players/recruits chosen in the first round in one draft. Pearson was relieved of his responsibilities on August 5, 2022.
